Dodgers News: Los Angeles sending six all-stars to Arlington

As the Los Angeles Dodgers wrapped up the series finale on Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers, the spotlight shifted to Major League Baseball’s announcement of the 2024 American League and National League all-star rosters.

After today’s game, there are only six more games until the conclusion of the first half of the 2024 Major League Baseball season, and the anticipation is high as the Dodgers will be sending six players to the mid-summer classic.

Prior to the roster announcement, there was the all-star fan voting, which determined the starting players for the American League and National League. However, Shohei Ohtani was the lone Dodgers representative who got the starting designated hitter nod and beat out Phillies’ left-handed slugger Kyle Schwarber.

Mookie Betts, who led the vote for much of the first half once voting opened, was overtaken by Phillies shortstop Trea Turner due to Betts fracturing his hand two weeks ago.

With the rosters announced, the Dodgers will offically send six all-stars to Arlington, the third time since the 2017 season that the team has at least six players going to represent the National League.

Joining Ohtani will be Tyler Glasnow, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Teoscar Hernández, and Will Smith.

It will be the eighth all-star game for future Hall of Famers Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman; however, with Betts being on the injured list until mid-August, he will be subbed out for another player.

It will be Shohei Ohtani’s first all-star game as a Dodger and the fourth selection of his seven-year career thus far, and he will be in the starting lineup for the National League.

It is the second time Will Smith will attend the all-star game with Teoscar Hernández, who fell short in fan voting last week.

For the first time in his career, Tyler Glasnow is an all-star, and for good reason. The Dodgers ace is in the top leaderboards in many pitching categories, including leading the National League in strikeouts with one hundred forty-three.

With the likelihood of players dropping out as the game inches closer, there is a possibility that more Dodgers can be added, specifically in the pitching department. The Dodgers had no players selected out of their bullpen, which is among the best in baseball this season.

The 2024 Major League Baseball all-star game will be held on Tuesday, July 16th, on FOX in Arlington, Texas, home of the defending 2023 World Series Champion Texas Rangers.
