PHILADELPHIA—The Los Angeles Dodgers are set to begin their six-game road trip in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, against the Phillies. After that, the team will head to our nation’s capital to take on the Washington Nationals.
While in Washington D.C., the team will visit the White House on Monday, April 7th, prior to Game One of their three-game set against the Nationals.
Over the last several days leading up to the visit, multiple Dodgers players, coaches, and members of the organization have been asked their thoughts on accepting the invitation and whether they would be in attendance.
Most recently, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was also asked about the divide between fans on social media due to the current administration’s policies, to which Roberts explained the visit is not a political statement.
“We have a lot of different people that are a part of this organization, different backgrounds, different cultures, races, gender, and so everyone has a different story, economic situations, and so we are all going as an organization so that I do know that we’re all aligned.”
“We all as an organization all decided that we were going to go, and so I’m in support of that, and it’s more on the heels of acknowledging our 2024 championship.”
Roberts continued, ” This is not a political thing. I’m not going to sit up here and make it political; we’re looking forward to celebrating our championship team.”
However, now we can add another member of the Dodgers World Champion roster who will join the team at the White House: Mookie Betts.
Betts, 32, stated that he’d need time to think about his decision last week at Dodger Stadium, and prior to tonight’s game against the Phillies, he told the media that he would be joining the team.
It is a complete 180° from Betts’ decision during the 2019 Major League Baseball season when Betts, a member of the 2018 World Series-winning Boston Red Sox, was absent from the festivities during the first Trump term.
Betts stated he wanted to be there with the rest of the team after they supported him last year, and he felt like when he didn’t go with the Red Sox in 2019, it made the story about him.
Mookie is just the latest member to announce that they’ll join the team during the White House visit. Kiké Hernández, Shohei Ohtani, and others have already announced their intention to join the team and celebrate their victory.
