Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Wins Fielding Bible Award at SS
Mookie Betts is rolling in the defensive awards at shortstop, his first full year at the position

TORONTO—While the 2025 World Series kicks off tonight between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays, the regular season’s closing series, multiple yearly awards are being announced.
As usual, the Dodgers, one of the league’s best teams over the last several years, have multiple players who have won or been nominated for awards, including yesterday’s Silver Slugger nominations and last week’s Rawlings Gold Glove Award nominations.
Well, for Dodgers all-star shortstop Mookie Betts, he’ll have the chance to add some additional hardware to his shelf this season, which is remarkable, as this was the first full season that the 33-year-old was at shortstop.
During the National League Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers, Betts was nominated as one of three finalists for the Gold Glove Award at shortstop, and now, he’s won the Fielding Bible Award at shortstop from Sports Info Solutions (SIS).
Mookie Betts earns his seventh Fielding Bible Award, tying with Yadier Molina and Andrelton Simmons for the most wins since 2006. Betts previously won as a right fielder in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2022, and received the multi-position Award in 2023.
In 2025, Betts tied Taylor Walls for the most Defensive Runs Saved by a shortstop, with 17. Although he had only 81 MLB games at shortstop before 2025, he adapted very well to the position. Betts successfully turned 12 more plays on balls hit to his right than expected, the highest among shortstops. He recorded 16 Defensive Misplays and Errors in 2025, three fewer than in 2024, despite playing more than twice as many innings.
Betts is the first Dodgers shortstop to earn the Award. The only other Dodgers infielder to receive a Fielding Bible Award is first baseman Adrián González in 2014.
This year, Betts led the National League shortstops with 17 Defensive Runs Saved and a 12 Total Zone Rating. According to Baseball Savant’s Fielding Run Value, Wynn (+17) and Allen (+12) were the top performers in the NL, with Betts at +3. In Outs Above Average, Wynn (+21) was the leader, followed by Allen (+17), while Betts scored +5.
Although Betts had a below-average offensive year, struggling significantly in the first five months before improving in August, he compensated with a strong defensive performance.
This is a significant story that tracked the Dodgers throughout the year, highlighting how his constant transfers between teams in his thirties were unprecedented.
Currently, Betts aims to secure a fourth World Series ring, with the Dodgers needing only four more victories to make history as the first team in over 25 years to win consecutive championships.
