Dodgers News: New City Connect uniform reportedly leaked

Late last night, hours after the Dodgers’ defeat to the San Diego Padres on Sunday, leaks surfaced of the alleged 2024 Dodgers City Connect uniforms. If the leaks are true, it will surely be a divisive look among fans.

Twitter/X user DyeMyColor posted the leaked image on his thread. The user also leaked the two City Connect hats worn by the Detroit Tigers and New York Mets, who each announced and wore their uniforms over the last two weeks.

The Dodgers are the first team to debut a second City Connect uniform, as reported about three months ago when the MLB announced the rotation for this year’s teams.

There was much speculation and hope for the next Dodgers City Connect uniform, as the Dodgers’ first iteration, which debuted in 2021, took the safe bet and kept similar colors and theme, replacing the “Dodgers” inscription with “Los Dodgers,” which is a nod to the Hispanic culture that follows the City of Los Angeles and the team’s fanbase.

While the initial City Connect uniform was conservative, it still maintained the team’s identity and didn’t deviate drastically like some other teams. However, if these leaked 2024 uniforms turn out to be true, it’s a design that many fans, including myself, find disagreeable and a departure from the team’s traditional look.

The leaked uniform, shown above, is an off-white cream with red, white, blue, and yellow dots sprinkled around the “Los Angeles” nameplate, giving it more of a funfetti cake appearance than a baseball uniform.

On the right arm sleeve is the Dodgers “LA” logo with the alternate Dodgers “D” that the team reincorporated on the Spring Training and batting practice hats for the 2024 season. On the left sleeve is a red “LA” tag that looks like it belongs on a shirt from Marshals.

One of the key indicators that this is a legit jersey is the hashtag above the jock tag because City Connect jerseys always have a slogan or message in that spot. In this case, the #ITFDB stands for “It’s time for Dodger baseball,” which was a Vin Scully catchphrase.

If that’s what it is, this City Connect jersey is part of a uniform that’s scheduled to be unveiled sometime in mid-June and will make its on-field debut on June 21. It will be the Dodgers’ second CC uniform, making them the first MLB team with that distinction. Their first CC design, which debuted in 2021 and went through multiple revisions, was retired at the end of last year.

In a year when Nike and Fanatics have dropped the ball with MLB team uniforms, the Dodgers’ new leaked City Connect uniform does not mend the wounds and puts the brand in an awkward spot. It doesn’t even feel like the Dodgers or the city of Los Angeles that the jersey is supposed to represent.
