Dodgers News: No Losers Here, Buddy Kennedy & Jose Ureña Are Guaranteed 2025 World Series Rings
It’s a good day for Buddy Kennedy and Jose Ureña because they literally can't lose.

TORONTO—Over the course of a 162-game season, every team is set to go through its fair share of players, as is the cycle with the Los Angeles Dodgers, who dealt with multiple injuries in their pitching staff and position player core.
However, it’s rare that by the end of the season in the Fall Classic, those players who were along for the ride each played for the two final teams, and that just so happens to be the case for journeyman infielder Buddy Kennedy and right-handed relief pitcher Jose Ureña.
While the Dodgers are looking to defend their 2024 World Series title by becoming the first back-to-back champions in league history in over a quarter century, the Toronto Blue Jays are looking for some magic of their own as they look for their first championship since the 1993 season.
Buddy Kennedy and Jose Ureña are assured of earning a World Series ring, regardless of the outcome. Both players were part of the Dodgers and Blue Jays teams during the 2025 season, earning them some nice hardware by the conclusion of the series.
Kennedy started the year with the Philadelphia Phillies, was designated for assignment, and then joined the Blue Jays in July.
The Dodgers claimed Kennedy off waivers on August 15th, leading to a brief period in Toronto. Julian Fernández was designated for assignment to accommodate Kennedy on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster.
With Max Muncy going down with a significant knee injury in July, where many thought his season could be over, the Dodgers, with no true viable options, took a chance on Kennedy to fill the void at third base in Muncy’s absence.
However, that stint was short-lived in Los Angeles as the Dodgers DFA’d Kennedy on August 25th to make room for utilityman Kiké Hernández off the injured list, with the journeyman infielder going just 1-for-17 with the Dodgers.
Ureña started the 2025 season with the New York Mets but played in just one game before being designated for assignment. After passing through waivers, he signed a Minor League contract with the Blue Jays.
Ureña experienced some success in Toronto but was DFA’d again after about a month with the team. He subsequently signed a Major League contract with the Dodgers, who were seeking bullpen assistance.
Ureña gave up one run on four hits, struck out two batters, and walked one in his two appearances for the Dodgers.
The 34-year-old was DFA’d on June 10th following Matt Sauer‘s recall. Ureña cleared waivers and signed a Minor League contract with the Minnesota Twins.
Ureña finished the year with the Los Angeles Angels and matched a Major League record by playing for five teams in a single season.
As the final series of the season is set to start on Friday, Buddy Kennedy and Jose Ureña will be celebrating behind the scenes regardless of who wins.
