ARLINGTON — After optioning right-handed pitcher Bobby Miller back to Triple-A OKC yesterday after allowing six runs in three innings of work in the Dodgers 8-7 narrow victory on Wednesday the team has now officially made their corresponding roster move in recalling right-handed relief pitcher Noah Davis.
Davis, 27, was acquired just before the start of the regular season from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for cash considerations and added to the Dodgers’ 40-man roster shortly after, replacing right-handed pitcher Emmet Sheehan who was transferred to the 60-day injured list as he recovers from Tommy John surgery.
During Spring Training with the Red Sox this year, Davis showed promise in four Grapefruit League outings, posting an impressive 0.86 WHIP and holding opponents to a .206 batting average over 9.1 innings with nine strikeouts.
Davis appeared in nine games for the Colorado Rockies last season. He logged 20.1 innings, allowing thirteen runs while striking out fifteen batters.
So far this season with the Triple-A Comets, Davis is 1-0 with a 7.94 ERA and nine strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched.
Davis’s stint with the big league club is not expected to be long as right-handed relief pitcher Evan Phillips is set to throw one more minor league game before he’s activated off the 15-day injured list.
Still, the addition of Davis gives the Dodgers one more arm in the bullpen. Since the injury to lefty Blake Snell, the bullpen has had to pitch multiple-inning games, with spot starters Justin Wrobleski, Bobby Miller, and Landon Knack not giving the team adequate length.
