Dodgers News: OF/INF Miguel Vargas reportedly being called up.

MILB

Early reports that OF Miguel Vargas is being called up to the Dodgers. The official announcement and date are still to be determined and the Dodgers organization still has not officially activated Jason Heyward.

In 2023 Miguel Vargas was hit by 92-mph on his right thumb that effected his batting and throwing. Vargas played with the main team until July 9th when he was sent back down to the Dodgers Triple- A OKC. Vargas would come back up to the Dodgers in October but not get much playing time.

Vargas started off the 2024 baseball season with the Dodgers Triple-A affiliate Oklahoma City Baseball Club. Vargas has been playing left field for OKC most of the young season, he has demonstrated excellent ball tracking when a ball is hit his way and has shown a strong throwing arm. Vargas questions are not of his ability to field, but his ability to hit.

In 139 at bats, Miguel Vargas has 41H / 8HR / 38RBI / 8SB / 14 Doubles / 1 Triple / 34BB / 30SO / .295AVG / .436OBP / .593SLG / and leads the team 1.019OPS. Only Andy Pages had a higher OPS then Vargas when he was with the team. Vargas has shown that his ability to hit has come back to form, that same ability that made him a top prospect in 2022.

It is this writer’s opinion that Miguel Vargas, if called up will be a totally different player then what Dodgers fans seen in 2023. I think he was humbled and got caught up in the hype behind his appearance in the big league. The thing we all have to remember is, these players are in their twenties and still have some maturing to do. I also believe Miguel learned a lot and will come up to the Dodgers with the work ethic OKC has seen and work hard on contributing to the Dodgers organization.
