Dodgers News: Ohtani Breaks Dodgers Record for Home Runs at Dodger Stadium

Shohei Ohtani continues to add to his historic career by hitting his 29th home run of the season at Dodger Stadium, solidifying his status as a legendary left-handed slugger

LOS ANGELES, CA—Over the weekend, while the Los Angeles Dodgers took three of four versus their National League West rival, the San Francisco Giants, two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani added another record to his already historic career.

On Saturday, during the Dodgers’ 7-5 win, bailing out Tyler Glasnow, who allowed four runs to cross home plate in the top of the first inning, multiple Dodgers hitters smashed home runs, including Ohtani, who hit his 53rd of the season, tying him for the National League lead with Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber.

Ohtani is now just one home run shy of his career high, which was set last season when the unanimous National League MVP hit fifty-four bombs to close out a historic 50/50 season for the Dodgers’ new $700 million leadoff man.

Earlier in this homestand, Ohtani reached his 140th and 141st runs of the season. He became only the third player in the past 20 years to have at least 140 runs in a single season, joining Alex Rodriguez (143 runs, 2007) and Ronald Acuña Jr. (149, 2023).

Ohtani broke a new L.A. Dodgers record this year by scoring his 135th run, surpassing his own previous record set last season.

The all-time Dodgers record for most runs scored in a season is still within reach for the two-way superstar. The record is held by Hub Collins, who scored 148 runs for Brooklyn in 1890.

Ohtani is well on his way to winning his third straight MVP award, which would be the fourth of his career. He has previously won two with the Los Angeles Angels in the American League and last year in his first season with the Dodgers.

With six games left and the Dodgers still eyeing the National League West title, Ohtani’s ongoing hot streak will be crucial, as he has achieved a 1.218 OPS and a 223 wRC+ this month.
