PHILADELPHIA— Prior to tonight’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani threw his third bullpen since the team returned to the States after the two-game series in Tokyo, Japan.
While Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated last week that Ohtani would ramp up his throwing program over the next few weeks, Ohtani only threw twenty-five pitches with a few change-ups mixed in.
This marks the third time in the last two weeks that Ohtani has thrown a bullpen session, doing so twice at Dodger Stadium last week and his first on the road today.
Ohtani’s next step is to have another light bullpen session before the conclusion of their six-game road trip and throw a high-intensity bullpen next Saturday.
Despite the ramp-up, neither the Dodgers, Ohtani, nor Roberts has any set timetable for his return to the mound or for when he’ll face live hitters.
Ohtani has not pitched a game since August 23rd of 2023, and with each delay, that return date is starting to look like the second half of the 2025 season.
