LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers’ DH (and soon-to-be pitcher) Shohei Ohtani has officially begun his road to recovery after suffering a dislocated shoulder in Game 2 of the 2024 World Series. Ohtani injured his left (non-throwing) shoulder while sliding into second base on a stolen base attempt in the seventh inning. The Dodgers confirmed Tuesday that he successfully underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum, a result of the dislocation, with Dr. Neal ElAttrache performing the procedure in Los Angeles.

The injury put a sudden halt to Ohtani’s impact on the Series and left Dodgers fans holding their breath. Fortunately, the surgery went as planned, and Ohtani is expected to be back in time for Spring Training. For Dodgers fans, this is a huge relief as the injury raised concerns about Ohtani’s availability and recovery timeline.

This incident capped off a historic season for Ohtani, where he cemented his place as one of the most dynamic talents in the game. In his 2024 season, he became the first player in MLB history to reach 50 home runs (54) and 50 stolen bases (59) in the same year, dominating in nearly every offensive category. Ohtani led the league with a .390 OBP, .646 slugging percentage, and a 1.036 OPS, showcasing his ability to get on base, power up, and make every at-bat a potential game-changer.

Dodger fans are undoubtedly eager to see Ohtani back in action next spring, and his quick recovery could make all the difference in helping the team build on their recent World Series win. His record-breaking achievements are just a glimpse of what he brings to the lineup—and with his shoulder on the mend, Ohtani’s full return is one of the most anticipated events of the 2025 season.
