Dodgers News: Ohtani’s Historic Performance in Game Four of the NLCS Wins Legendary Moment of the Year

Shohei Ohtani's historic performance in the Game Four clincher against the Brewers in the NLCS wins Legendary Moment of the Year

LOS ANGELES, CA—As the Los Angeles Dodgers stood one win from reaching the Fall Classic for the second straight year, two-way star Shohei Ohtani was prepared to pitch in Game Four of the National League Championship Series versus the Milwaukee Brewers.

What happened next was nothing short of historic.

Shohei Ohtani set MLB history with an incredible performance against the Brewers, earning the Legendary Moment of the Year for 2025 through a collaboration with Budweiser.

Ohtani, who started the game on the mound, issued a lead-off walk but then struck out the next three batters. When it was his turn to bat for the Dodgers, he hit a solo home run off Brewers left-handed starter José Quintana.

Ohtani hit two additional home runs and struck out seven more batters. He finished the game 3-for-3, with three home runs and a walk. As a pitcher, Ohtani pitched over six innings of shutout baseball, allowing only two hits, striking out 10, and walking three.

The performance set several MLB records and also made Ohtani the first Dodgers pitcher to hit a home run in the postseason.

Ohtani achieved a unique milestone by being the first player to hit three home runs in a game and also start as a pitcher without allowing any runs, with at least 10 strikeouts. This feat had never been seen before in both regular-season and playoff games, either in the same game or across different games.

The historic night was enough to earn Ohtani the NLCS MVP, despite struggling for most of the series and in the National League Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies, as well.

Ohtani’s NLCS Game Four was selected as the Legendary Moment for the 2025 season, surpassing four other nominees for the award. One of these was Ohtani hitting 50 home runs this year, marking his back-to-back seasons with at least that many.

Other moments considered included Athletics rookie Nick Kurtz hitting four home runs in a single game, Washington Nationals’ Jacob Young making a spectacular catch, and Seattle Mariners All-Star Cal Raleigh hitting 60 home runs.
