Sixteen pitchers will try to navigate April for the team
LOS ANGELES — In the nick of time, Dave Roberts has got his team. We’ve known about the position players for a couple of days now, so it was only a matter of figuring out which of the pitchers in camp are ready to go. So, according to a report at mlb.com, here are the 28 Dodgers who will start the year.
Position Players
- Catchers: Will Smith, Austin Barnes
- Infield: Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, Gavin Lux, Trea Turner, Justin Turner, Hanser Alberto, and Edwin Rios
- Outfield: Chris Taylor, Mookie Betts, and Cody Bellinger
This is as we reported a few days ago. It’s a little light in the outfield. If somebody goes down with injury, you can always call up a guy, but Lux is really the only guy who could step in in case of emergency. We’ll see how this plays out.
Rotation
- Starters: Walker Buehler, Clayton Kershaw, Julio Urias, Tony Gonsolin, Andrew Heaney
Not in love with the four and five holes right now, and really not in love with depending on Andrew Heaney for anything. If the Dodgers have a weakness, it’s that depth issue at starter, something we thought we wouldn’t have to worry about at the beginning of last year.
Relievers
- Bullpen: Tyler Anderson, Justin Bruihl, Garrett Cleavinger, Brusdar Graterol, Daniel Hudson, Craig Kimbrel, Evan Phillips, David Price, Blake Treinen, Alex Vesia, Mitch White
No huge surprises here. To me the wild card is Tyler Anderson. A good spring from him could set the Dodgers up very nicely for when the rosters shrink in three weeks time.
So there you have it. Still a little concerned about the pitching, but it’s an Opening Day lineup that will rival any in baseball history.
But as they say, you don’t play the games on paper.
Let’s do this….
