Dodgers News: Roberts and Dodgers Reportedly Agree to Record-Breaking Multi-Year Contract Extension

The Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly agreed to a massive record-breaking multi-year contract extension with the 10-year manager and two-time World Series champion Dave Roberts, per Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

It was reported earlier this week by Sherman that the team and Roberts were close to an agreement on an extension, which Roberts confirmed in his pre-game media scrum on Friday.

“We’re at the one-yard line … Things are looking good. I’m optimistic. This is where I want to be, so I’m excited that things are getting done.”

Overall, it is a 4-year, $32.4 million contract that locks up Roberts as the Dodgers manager until the 2029 Major League Baseball season. The average annual value (AAV) is also higher than the $8 million that Craig Counsell signed during the 2023 offseason with the Chicago Cubs

While Craig Counsell is regarded as one of the best managers in baseball, he does not have anywhere close to the resume that Roberst has earned since taking the Dodgers gig in November of 2015.

Since that day, Roberts has led the Dodgers to four National League Pennants, two World Series Championships, and the National League Manager of the Year award during the 2016 season.

Roberts has a lifetime 851-507 record as a manager, giving him a .627 winning percentage. That’s the highest winning percentage of any manager in MLB history, with at least 1000 games managed in his career, translating to approximately 102 wins in a 162-game season.

Expectations are at an all-time high this season, and it makes sense to cap off their already historic offseason. The Dodgers wanted to lock up and reward their manager and prepare to become the first repeat champions in over twenty years.
