Dodgers News: Roberts Hints at Potential Change in Outfield Amid Andy Pages’ Struggles

Pages’ continued postseason struggles have the Dodgers contemplating a change.

LOS ANGELES, CA—While the Los Angeles Dodgers evened things up in the World Series by taking Game Two over the Toronto Blue Jays, much of the baseball media and the fandome questioned what the Dodgers would do with slumping Andy Pages.

Pages, the second-year 27-year-old outfielder, made tremendous strides during the 2025 season, setting a new career-high with 27 home runs (which also ranked No. 2 on the Dodgers) and improving remarkably in center field defensively.

Entering October, Pages was set to be one of the more valuable position players for Los Angeles, setting the tone for the bottom third of the Dodgers lineup before handing it off to the MVP trio atop the order.

However, throughout this postseason, that hasn’t been the case, with Pages becoming increasingly more of a liability at the plate. Despite these difficulties, Pages has started every game for the Dodgers—a trend that might change if his performance improves, according to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

“He has struggled this postseason,” manager Dave Roberts acknowledged prior to Game 2 of the World Series. “What I need from him is to have quality at-bats, to be able to get on base, to win 3-2 pitches. He’s playing very sound defense, which is a big part of why he’s in there.

“Being in the nine-hole, I’m not expecting him to carry the offense, but still be a contributor.”

Pages was productive enough in the Dodgers Game Two win, going 1-for-4 with a line drive single, but nearly made a baserunning mistake at second base with a rocket throw from Blue Jays right fielder Addison Barger.

Still, the Dodgers skipper has hinted that the team was considering a change, even in yesterday’s game, as the broadcast showed Alex Call preparing to pinch-hit for Pages at one point.

“I have contemplated other decisions. I’m keeping a close eye on it,” he said. “I still need to see some kind of uptick in consistency of performance. So when and if I decide to change — I haven’t decided that — but I’m being mindful.”

However, the decision becomes complicated, as in the Dodgers’ eyes, there is no proper replacement for Pages in center field.

While the logical answer could be shifting Tommy Edman to center field, Roberts shot that idea down due to potential injury risk, despite Edman feeling he’d be healthy enough to take the reins out there.

Alex Call is a potential replacement and would fit the idea of a nine-hole hitters better than Pages with his 28% walk-rate this postseason, but wouldn’t give you the same defense in center that Pages can.

With only five potential games remaining, it’s more likely the Dodgers continue to run Pages out there every game, but one thing is for certain: Pages needs to set the tone better for the bottom of the lineup, or it’s going to be a long series.
