Dodgers News: Roberts Lays Out Pitching Plan for Giants and Phillies Series

LOS ANGELES, CA–After salvaging Sunday’s finale in Baltimore and sweeping the Rockies at Dodger Stadium, the team has a nice four-game win streak going as they head into a pivotal three-game weekend series in San Francisco.

With today’s off day, Dave Roberts has reset his starting rotation, setting it up for Yoshinobu Yamamoto on Friday, Clayton Kershaw on Saturday, and Tyler Glasnow on Sunday.

This will push Ohtani to the start of the Phillies series on Monday, where Emmet Sheehan and Blake Snell’ll likely follow him.

Another bit to watch is the potential arrival of 23-year-old rookie right-hander Roki Sasaki, who is traveling back to Los Angeles on Thursday to plan out his next steps this season.

Could we see Sasaki make a few more starts to close out this season?

Ohtani’s Next Start Pushed Back to Phillies Series

With Dave Roberts announcing the Dodgers’ weekend rotation in a critical series in San Francisco yesterday, it was notably missing two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani.

Well, that is by design per Roberts as the team wants to give Ohtani a bit more rest after asking him to not only pitch on short notice last Friday, but also because the three-time MVP was under the weather the last few days.

Now, Ohtani will have his next start pushed back to Monday, when the Dodgers return home for their final homestand, starting off with a massive three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies.

“We just felt that there was the sickness, we moved him up, so just to give a little extra rest on the backend of that last start”

The shakeup should benefit Ohtani, as the right-handed flamethrower has posted a 2.25 ERA at Dodger Stadium compared to a 4.95 ERA on the road this season.

Ohtani hopes to be the tone setter in what could be the final series for the Dodgers to make their push for the number two seed in the National League, as the Phillies currently hold a four-game lead with sixteen left to play.
