Dodgers News: Roberts Names McCullough and Snitker to All-Star Coaching Staff

Doc to manage ASG for fourth time

LOS ANGELES — Dodgers manager Dave Roberts is returning to the All-Star Game this summer—and he’s bringing some familiar faces with him. Roberts announced that former Dodgers coach and current Marlins manager Clayton McCullough, along with longtime Braves skipper Brian Snitker, will serve on his National League coaching staff for the 2025 Midsummer Classic in Atlanta.

The decision underscores Roberts’ collaborative spirit and his appreciation for coaching talent with both deep roots in player development and proven postseason leadership. For Dodgers fans, it also reflects the organization’s wide-reaching influence across Major League Baseball.

Clayton McCullough, who served as the Dodgers’ first-base coach from 2021 to 2023, was a quiet but pivotal member of Roberts’ staff during one of the franchise’s most competitive stretches. Before joining the major league club, McCullough worked in the Dodgers’ minor league system as a field coordinator, where he played a key role in the development of the team’s young stars. A former minor league catcher, McCullough brought calm leadership and attention to detail that helped shape the team’s identity both on the basepaths and behind the scenes. After his stint with the Dodgers, he was hired as the Miami Marlins’ manager ahead of the 2025 season, earning his first shot at leading a big-league club. While the Marlins are in a rebuilding phase, McCullough remains respected for his communication skills and player-first approach—qualities that made him a trusted voice in the Dodgers’ dugout and now, a deserving All-Star coach.

Brian Snitker, meanwhile, brings a different kind of pedigree. The veteran Braves manager has been a steadying presence in Atlanta since taking over in 2016, guiding the team to consistent success, including a World Series championship in 2021. Snitker has been with the Braves organization in some capacity since 1977, climbing the ranks from minor league player to coach to manager. His loyalty, resilience, and deep knowledge of the game have made him one of the most respected figures in the sport. The Dodgers and Braves have had no shortage of playoff battles in recent years, with their 2020 and 2021 National League Championship Series clashes becoming instant classics. Roberts and Snitker, while rivals in October, have always shown mutual respect, and their working together in Atlanta this summer adds a compelling layer to their relationship. And, of course, since the game is going to be played in Atlanta this year (after a silly controversy stole it from the city in 2021), it only makes sense that Snitker be on the staff so that Atlanta fans can give their skipper his due.

Roberts’ choices reflect a clear strategy for his All-Star staff—one rooted in both familiarity and admiration. McCullough represents the future: a sharp, modern mind with intimate knowledge of the Dodgers’ culture and player development pipeline. Snitker represents the steady veteran hand: a seasoned leader who has managed in big moments and mentored countless players and coaches over his decades in the game. Together, they offer Roberts a balance of youthful perspective and seasoned experience, a combination that should benefit the National League squad in what promises to be a tightly contested All-Star Game.

For Dodgers fans, there’s an added layer of pride. McCullough may now wear Marlins teal, but he’ll always be remembered as part of the Dodgers’ recent run of success. Seeing him back alongside Roberts, even for just one night in July, is a reminder of how many hands have shaped the Dodgers’ winning culture. And while Snitker may have been on the other side of some tense playoff moments, there’s no denying his place among the most respected figures in baseball. That mutual respect—between Roberts, Snitker, and McCullough—will be on full display when the National League takes the field in Atlanta.

The All-Star Game has always been a showcase for talent, but it’s also a moment to reflect on the people who shape the game from the dugout. With Roberts at the helm and McCullough and Snitker by his side, this year’s midsummer classic promises to be a meeting of minds as well as a display of athletic excellence. And for Dodgers fans watching from afar, it will be a reminder that even in July, Los Angeles continues to shape the story of baseball.

The All-Star game will be played on Tuesday July 15 at Truist Park in Atlanta. All-Star voting is still taking place. Our Cody Snavely has just broken down where the Dodgers currently stand.

A lifelong baseball fan, Webb has been going to Dodger games since he moved to Los Angeles in 1987. His favorite memory was sitting in an apartment in October 1988 when Gibby went yard against Eckersley in the World Series. Which came about ten minutes after he declared “this game is over!” Hopefully, his baseball acumen has improved since then. He has been writing for Dodgersbeat since 2020.
