Dodgers News: Robinson Ortiz Traded to Seattle for Tyler Gough

The Dodgers have made their first trade of the young offseason

LOS ANGELES, CA—Yesterday afternoon, the Los Angeles Dodgers made their first trade of the 2026 offseason, shipping away left-handed pitcher Robinson Ortiz to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for minor league right-hander Tyler Gough.

Ortiz has been with the Dodgers organization since he signed as an international free agent from the Dominican Republic on June 2nd, 2017. He moved to the U.S. the next year and steadily advanced through the Minor League system after pitching for the Dodgers’ Arizona League rookie team in 2018.

While the lefty did miss the 2022 and 2023 seasons due to injury, he ended up working his way through the Dodgers pipeline, ending the season with the Triple-A Oklahoma City Comets, going 1-0 with a 2.76 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and one save in 15 appearances.

Overall in his Minor League career, the 25-year-old is 17-12 with a 3.48 ERA in 99 games (41 starts) across six seasons. The Dodgers added Ortiz to the 40-man roster at the beginning of the month in a series of moves that also saw the team exercise Max Muncy’s option and add minor league outfielder Ryan Ward to the 40-man roster.

Gough, originally from San Diego, was selected by the Mariners in the ninth round of the 2012 MLB Draft. He went to JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano.

The right-hander finished his first professional season in 2023 with a 1-3 record and a 5.70 ERA over 10 games, including nine starts for Single-A Modesto. He continued with the Nuts throughout 2024, achieving a 7-4 record with a 2.23 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP across 23 starts.

Last season, Gough averaged 9.31 strikeouts per nine innings for Modesto. The 22-year-old did not play in 2025 while recovering from Tommy John surgery performed in September 2024.

During his procedure, Gough was expected to recover in time for Spring Training 2026. At the time of his trade, Gough was not included on the Mariners’ 40-man roster.

After the trade, the Dodgers’ 40-man roster now sits at 38 players, which is important as the deadline for teams to set their 40-man roster before the Rule-5 Draft is today, November 18th.
