According to Fabian Ardaya and Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic, the Los Angeles Dodgers are set to meet with 23-year-old Japanese right-handed pitcher Rōki Sasaki for the second time today after being narrowed down as one of the final three finalists.
It was reported yesterday that Sasaki and his camp had also picked the Toronto Blue Jays and San Diego Padres as the other finalists in the dance for his services, with both clubs meeting with the talented righty over the weekend.
The Sasaki to San Diego crowd got a bit louder last night when a video surfaced around social media of what looked to be Sasaki himself throwing at Petco Park fully decked out in the Padres’ signature yellow and brown.
However, after much speculation and a few premature tweets from some other Major League Baseball insiders who stated that the Padres felt “cautiously optimistic” about their chances to sign Sasaki, he will now meet with the Dodgers on the eve of his official signing window.
Despite being officially posted by the Chiba Lotte Marines on December 9th, Sasaki was not eligible to officially sign with any Major League club until tomorrow, the opening of the 2025 international signing period.
Sasaki was given a forty-five-day window to sign with a team, which gives him a window from January 15th until the 23rd, but most around the league believe he will make his decision as soon as this weekend.
However, for this second round of meetings, all clubs are pulling out their star talent, with multiple star players expected to be involved in today’s potential last pitch for the Japanese star.
