Dodgers News: Rosario DFA’ed to make room for Mookie on roster

LOS ANGELES, CA — Wow. Did not see this one coming. Amed Rosario, who has had very limited playing time since being acquired via trade from the Tampa Bay Rays at the deadline, has been designated for assignment. The move was made necessary because of the activation of Mookie Betts from the injured list. Betts figures to be back in the lineup on Monday night as the Dodgers start their series in Milwaukee against the Brewers.

The Dodgers traded for Rosario primarily to strengthen the depth in the infield and to be a quality bat off the bench against lefthanded pitchers. However, with Gavin Lux and Kike Hernandez eating up the lion’s share of time at third and second, there wasn’t much need for Rosario’s services. He only saw action in five games for the Dodgers, getting three hits in eleven at-bats.

It’s a curious move for a number of reasons. Why trade for a guy if you’re going to cut him less than two weeks later? Plus, why cut a guy who could be an asset in a late game off the bench.

Scratching my head. More to come….

  1. So who gets the can when Muncie, Yamamoto and others come back? I feel bad for these guys that come in for just a few games. Hopefully they go someplace they can play more. Just not Yankees or Astros. 😂😂😂💙🤍⚾🎙️
