Dodgers News: Ryan Fitzgerald Clears Waivers, Outrighted to Triple-A
Veteran infielder stays in the organization as depth for 2026

LOS ANGELES, CA—Earlier in January, the Los Angeles Dodgers made two notable moves to give the team additional infield depth: claiming 31-year-old utility infielder Ryan Fitzgerald off waivers from the Minnesota Twins and signing fellow American League Central utilityman Andy Ibáñez to a 1-year, $1.2 million deal.
However, before the team could announce the Ibáñez signing, they had to make a corresponding move on the 40-man roster, which was full after adding Fitzgerald.
Ultimately, Fitzgerald spent just four days on the Dodgers roster before being DFA’d to make room for Ibáñez.
Since Fitzgerald has under three years of Major League service and no prior career, he cannot choose free agency and will be sent to the Dodgers’ minor league camp without dispute.
That now appears to be the case, as per the Dodgers’ transaction page, the utility infielder has cleared waivers and been outrighted to minor league camp.
Fitzgerald’s time on the 40-man roster was short, but the 31-year-old slashed .277/.367/.469 in 59 Triple-A games last season while also spending 24 games with the Twins, where he only hit .196 but did post a .758 OPS while also slugging four home runs.
Given his defensive versatility and pop with the bat, he’ll likely join the Dodgers in camp as a non-roster invitee and would be a great emergency option for Los Angeles should they deal with a few injuries on their roster during the regular season.
