Team couldn’t ask for a better final week of the season
LOS ANGELES — This weird lockout has given the Dodgers a bit o’ luck on the day before St. Patrick’s Day. MLB just released the updated schedule and because of the lost games at the beginning of the season, the Dodgers will find themselves with a very attractive draw in the final week of the season.
The new schedule has the Dodgers playing six (COUNT ‘EM, SIX!) consecutive home games against the Colorado Rockies to round out the 2022 campaign. That is a whole lot of Rockies in a row. Of course, the Rockies of late have been notoriously terrible on the road, and particularly bad at Dodger Stadium. The Rox were 26-54 on the road in 2021 and 6-13 versus the Dodgers overall. And given the fact the Trevor Story is very soon to be an ex-Rockie, it won’t get much better.
Compare that relatively easy draw with what the Giants and Padres have in the final week of 2022. The Giants host the D-Backs (okay, cake) and then they travel to San Diego to finish the season against the Padres, who will just be coming off a home series with the loaded White Sox.
Of course, you always hope you can use the final week of the season to rest guys and get your rotation in order, but if it’s another dogfight in the West this year, the Dodgers are set up pretty well to finish strong if Dave Roberts needs to go to the whip in the homestretch.
