Dodgers News: Seattle Siezes Control of ALCS — and Keeps Dodgers Fans Watching Closely

TORONTO — Seattle’s bats came alive at Rogers Centre on Sunday night, and Dodgers fans might want to pay attention — because if the Mariners finish off Toronto, Los Angeles will have home field advantage in the World Series.
The tone was set early. Randy Arozarena was hit by a pitch, Cal Raleigh walked, and Julio Rodríguez crushed a three-run homer to left in the top of the first. Toronto punched back right away: George Springer doubled and scored, and Alejandro Kirk’s RBI single cut the lead to 3–2. When Nathan Lukes lined an RBI single in the second, the game was tied, and the Rogers Centre crowd was back in full voice.
Then Jorge Polanco silenced them. In the fifth, with two on and one out, Polanco launched a towering drive to center for a three-run homer that put Seattle ahead 6–3. That swing changed everything.
From there, the Mariners piled on. Mitch Garver opened the sixth with a triple and scored on J.P. Crawford’s single. An inning later, Josh Naylor — redeeming himself after an early throwing error — blasted a two-run shot to right to make it 9–3. A Crawford sac fly added one more, and by the seventh inning stretch, it was over.
Seattle’s bullpen locked things down, stringing together five shutout innings after starter Logan Gilbert exited. Emerson Hancock finished it off with two scoreless frames, and the Mariners walked off with a commanding 2–0 series lead.
Toronto got three hits from Lukes and two RBI from its first five batters, but the lineup couldn’t touch Seattle’s relief arms down the stretch.
For Dodgers fans, the takeaway is clear: if Seattle wins the American League pennant, the World Series begins at Dodger Stadium. If Toronto comes back, L.A. opens on the road in Canada.
So while the Dodgers battle the Brewers for NL supremacy, it’s worth keeping an eye on the ALCS. The louder the Mariners’ bats get, the louder Chavez Ravine could be when October’s final series begins.
