With Southern California and the city of Los Angeles being ravaged by numerous wildfires, many in the sports world are pitching in to help those affected in the community. One such person is Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, who is set to donate $500 thousand to help with fire relief.

Ohtani, 30, has spent his entire major league career in Los Angeles. He spent the first six years with the Los Angeles Angels and this past season in year one of a massive 10-year, $700 million deal with the Dodgers.

In his Instagram message, the three-time Most Valuable Player Award winner said, “Our hearts go out to all the firefighters who continue to fight for us during the fires in LA; we’ll be donating $500,000 to help those firefighters and those forced to live in shelters to help animals in need.”

Ohtani is just one of the many high-profile persons who donated to the relief, including Dodgers teammate Freddie Freeman and his wife Chelsea Freeman, who donated $300 thousand to fire relief, along with utilityman Chris Taylor and left-handed veteran Clayton Kershaw.

It was also announced earlier this week that multiple sports teams in the city of Los Angeles would donate a combined $8 million to fire relief efforts and partner with Fanatics to sell merchandise, with one hundred percent of those funds going to those in need.
