Dodgers News: Snell & Treinen Will Begin Rehab Assignment this Upcoming Week

LOS ANGELES, CA— After a successful second live batter session, pitchers Blake Treinen and Blake Snell are each set to begin a minor league rehab assignment later this week, per Dodgers manager Dave Roberts

Snell, 32, has been out since the end of April with left shoulder discomfort. Even after days and weeks without throwing, Snell wasn’t cleared by team doctors to resume his throwing program.

In mid-May, that changed after a visit with Dr. Neal ElAttrache, Snell was finally cleared to resume his throwing program and ramp up the distance and intensity.

After pushing the distance of his throws from sixty to one hundred twenty feet, the next step was a bullpen session, which happened in early June.

Since then, Snell has been throwing what he described as “pain-free” for the first time since he inked a massive 5-year, $182 million contract with Los Angeles over the winter.

Snell threw his second live batter session since being on the injured list, pitching two innings facing Hyeseong Kim and a few other Dodgers minor leaguers.

Roberts stated that the assignment will occur sometime late next week and will last around two innings, with the lefty hopefully ready to return after the All-Star break.

Joining Snell will be Blake Treinen, who also faced hitters today at Dodger Stadium prior to Game Two versus Houston.

Treinen, 37, has been on the injured list since late April due to an MRI that revealed a right low-grade sprain in his right forearm.

Sometime last month, Treinen restarted his throwing program and tossed a bullpen session at Dodger Stadium. The veteran right-hander has continued his progression and faced the same hitters Snell did today.

Dave Roberts was confident that both players would be back soon after the All-Star break, a massive boost to the Dodgers’ pitching staff, which is also adding Emmet Sheehan and Tyler Glasnow to the staff this week.
