Dodgers News: Snell & Yamamoto Will Start First Two Games of World Series

Snell and Yamamoto will start the first two games of the World Series for the Dodgers

LOS ANGELES, CA—The Los Angeles Dodgers are gearing up for the second consecutive World Series, which will kick off on Friday, October 24th, north of the border in Toronto against the Blue Jays.

But before the team gets ready for the cross-country flight to Canada, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts spoke to the media via Zoom and confirmed his starters for the first two games of the series.

To no one’s surprise, the Dodgers will go with left-hander Blake Snell in Game One and Yoshinobu Yamamoto in Game Two, the same order as the National League Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers.

As the saying goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, and that’s something the Dodgers may take to heart as the success of Snell and Yamamoto in the first two games of the NLCS set the tone for the rest of that series, which ultimately led to a sweep.

In Game One, Snell tossed eight scoreless innings while allowing only one hit, which was quickly erased on a pick-off.

The following night, despite allowing a first-pitch lead-off home run to young stud Jackson Chourio, Yamamoto would settle in and finish the game, tossing the first postseason complete game since the 2017 season and the first in Dodgers postseason history since 2004.

Overall, the Dodgers’ starting rotation was historic in the NLCS as the collective might of Snell, Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, and Shohei Ohtani posted a 0.63 ERA, the lowest in NLCS history, while posting a collective 1.40 ERA for the entire postseason.

As for the rotation order when the series shifts back to Los Angeles for Game Three, Roberts did not have the answer yet, but it is expected that Tyler Glasnow will get the nod, followed by Shohei Ohtani in Game Four.

The rationale for that is that Blake Snell would be able to pitch Game Five and Yamamoto would be able to pitch Game Six, with a potential winner-take-all Game Seven being started by Glasnow with Ohtani available in the bullpen, as was the reasoning for the rotation order in the NLCS.
