Dodgers News: Stewart Done for Season

LOS ANGELES — According to media reports coming out of Seattle, right-handed reliever Brock Stewart has been shut down for the year.

The news came out as the Dodgers prepare to battle with the NL West-leading Seattle Mariners in the final series of the year. Stewart’s return was always a bit of a longshot, but Dave Roberts had remained optimistic in recent comments to the press. Apparently, the recovery has hit a snag. And if Dr. Neal ElAttrache says you need surgery, you need surgery.

Stewart, a one-time Dodger, had thrived this year as part of a rather muscular Minnesota Twins bullpen, but when the Twins had their fire sale at the deadline, Stewart was available. He posted a 2.38 ERA with the Twinkies, but only managed to get into four games with Los Angeles before getting injured. The trade piece in the deal was outfielder James Outman, who could never regain the magic of his solid rookie campaign with the Dodgers. Outman’s struggles have continued in Minnesota, as he is hitting just .153 since being traded.

Stewart will still be under team control next season, so the deal may end up working out in the end. But for 2025, the acquisition came up empty.

This makes it even more crucial that righthanders like Blake Treinen and Roki Sasaki perform in the postseason, as one more option from that side has been eliminated.

Stay tuned.
