Dodgers News: Team Commits $1 Million to Support Immigrant Families
Funds to Target those Affected by ICE Enforcement Actions

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced a $1 million donation to support immigrant families facing economic hardship in the wake of recent federal enforcement activity across the region. The initiative, made in partnership with the City of Los Angeles, marks the beginning of a broader plan by the team to aid vulnerable members of the local community.
In a press release issued Friday, the organization stated that the donation is intended to provide “direct financial assistance for families of immigrants impacted by recent events in the region.” The move follows a wave of concern that has swept across Los Angeles communities in the wake of visible immigration enforcement actions near key public locations, including Dodger Stadium.
Stan Kasten, President and CEO of the Dodgers, emphasized the team’s ongoing responsibility to the city it calls home. “What’s happening in Los Angeles has reverberated among thousands upon thousands of people, and we have heard the calls for us to take a leading role on behalf of those affected,” Kasten said. “We believe that by committing resources and taking action, we will continue to support and uplift the communities of Greater Los Angeles.”
The Dodgers, in partnership with city leaders, have previously mobilized resources in times of crisis — most recently to assist victims of the January wildfires. According to the release, this latest effort will follow a similar model, ensuring that funds go directly to those in immediate need. At this point, it is unclear exactly to whom the funds will flow, although the statement hints at future announcements that will include “the California Community Foundation, the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor and others who are directly supporting our communities to aid youth and families with food insecurity, basic essentials and mental health services.”
“The Dodgers and the City of Los Angeles have a proven ability to get financial resources to those in critical need,” the release said. “Through our support of the city’s efforts, the Dodgers will encourage those organizations in a similar position to use their resources to directly support the families and workers who have suffered economic hardship.”
Mayor Karen Bass praised the Dodgers’ response and reinforced the importance of community solidarity. “I want to thank the Dodgers for leading with this action to support the immigrant community of Los Angeles,” Bass said. “These last weeks have sent shockwaves of fear rippling through every neighborhood and have had a direct impact on our economy. My message to all Angelenos is clear: We will stick together during this time and we will not turn our backs on one another — that’s what makes this the greatest city in the world.”
While the donation itself marks a major first step, the team’s broader message is clear: the Dodgers are positioning themselves not only as a sports franchise but as an institution committed to standing with the city during moments of uncertainty. Notably absent from the statement was any condemnation of ICE activities in the city, nor a broader stance against current immigration policy (or even a direct mention of it), which I’m sure many were hoping for.
For now, many in the community will be watching closely as the organization follows through on its pledge — not just to win on the field, but to lead with purpose off it.
When asked about it at his pregame presser, manager Dave Roberts said, “Roberts praised the donation, saying, “I think it’s great. I’m sure the money is going to be allocated in the right way. I’m happy to hear the Dodgers have done that — it’s certainly the right thing to do.”
Stay tuned. This is likely an issue that will continue to bubble all summer.
