Dodgers News: Team Officially Cuts Ties with Luis García After Struggles in Bullpen

The veteran right-hander was released after posting a 5.27 ERA over 28 appearances for Los Angeles; he now enters free agency with hopes of joining a new club.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have officially released right-handed reliever Luis García. The move follows García’s designation for assignment on June 29.

He cleared waivers and is now a free agent. García, 38, appeared in 28 games for the Dodgers this season, posting a 5.27 ERA over 27 1/3 innings. The veteran reliever was placed on the 15-day injured list in early June due to a right adductor strain and was activated on June 26.

His return to the roster coincided with a bullpen shuffle that included activating Edgardo Henriquez from the 60-day IL and recalling right-hander Noah Davis from Triple-A. García signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers during the offseason and made the Opening Day roster.

A veteran of 13 major league seasons, García has pitched for several teams, including the Phillies, Padres, Cardinals, and Red Sox. He owns a career 4.20 ERA over 573 big league appearances.

As the Dodgers continue to get healthy in their pitching staff, it figures they will continue to shed some of these stop-gap measures that they were forced into by injuries. We’ll see who’s next…
