Dodgers News: Team unveils 2024 City Connect Uniforms

After a disastrous weekend that saw the Dodgers take two of three against the Kansas City Royals but lose two of their best players, Mookie Betts and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the Dodgers teased the unveiling of their 2024 City Connect uniforms.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are the first team in the league to have two City Connect Uniforms in their closet. In 2021, they debuted the “Los Dodgers” all-blue uniform that many fans were dismissive of.

That uniform underwent multiple iterations, with slight changes to the hat in 2022 and the pants in 2023, before retiring at the end of last season.

Major League Baseball announced earlier this year that the next set of teams from Nike will join the City Connect program. The Dodgers were among those team’s and fans were eager to see what the league had in store for the next edition as fans, including me, felt the team played it too “safe.”

Throughout the season, there have been numerous leaks on social media of the Dodgers 2024 City Connect, including a leak of the confetti jersey and the hat in a sports shop out of the country. However, after today’s announcement, we can see that they were, in fact, the authentic jerseys.

The theme of this year’s City Connect uniform is Los Angeles, the city of dreamers, where people regularly shoot for the stars, chasing what many believe to be impossible.

However, now there is a meaning behind the confetti look, as the colorful sports are an homage to the diversity of Los Angeles and also to the different-colored seating that can be found at Dodgers Stadium.

The front wordmark pays homage to the signage at the LA Memorial Coliseum, the first home of the Los Angeles Dodgers, while the contrail and upward trajectory speak to the city’s pursuit of the beyond.

The jock tag at the bottom of the jersey has the famous #ITFDB which is the well-known saying of legendary broadcaster Vin Scully.

The numbers on the jersey are inspired by the mid-century typefaces popular during the Dodgers’ move to Los Angeles in the 1960s, and the new red, blue, and navy are a new take on the traditional Dodgers colors.

After seeing them in high-quality photos and on the players, I can see why some fans may like them. However, I still think the Dodgers, Major League Baseball, and Nike dropped the ball on these designs, and I think many fans will pass on buying anything from Nike and Fanatics this season.

The Dodgers will debut these uniforms on the field when they return home in the two-game series against the Angels on Saturday.
