LOS ANGELES, CA — Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided an update on Teoscar Hernández, who took a pitch off his foot in Friday night’s game but will avoid the Injured List. Hernández had to exit after his first at-bat, and his absence was felt later in the game when Chris Taylor, who took his place, grounded into a double play with the bases loaded during a crucial moment.

Roberts expressed optimism about Hernández’s condition, saying, “It’s day-to-day, and we’re hopeful to have him back early next week.” X-rays initially raised concerns, but a subsequent CT scan provided more detailed information, reassuring the team that the injury was not as severe as feared. “The scans cleared up any lingering concerns, so we’re confident he’ll be fine,” Roberts added.

In Hernández’s absence, the Dodgers will have to be flexible with their lineup in left field. Roberts noted that Andy Pages would be getting some opportunities, while Chris Taylor and Kiké Hernández will also be considered. “I haven’t made any decisions yet, but we’re trying to give Andy a shot and see if CT and Kiké can take advantage of their chances.”

The timing of Hernández’s injury is particularly unfortunate, as the Dodgers are in the thick of a playoff race. His bat has been a key asset in the lineup, and his absence was noticeable during Friday’s 3-1 loss to the Guardians. Roberts acknowledged the missed opportunity in the later innings, but remains confident in his team’s ability to adapt while Hernández recovers.

“These kinds of injuries are part of the game,” Roberts said. “We just have to figure it out day-to-day, make adjustments, and keep going.” Despite the setback, the manager is focused on giving his players the chance to step up in Hernández’s absence, while hoping for a speedy recovery for the outfielder.
