Dodgers News: Teoscar Hernández wins 2024 T-Mobile Home Run Derby

via CBS Sports

The Los Angeles Dodgers may have limped into the all-star break, losing five of their last six games, including back-to-back series losses to the National League-leading Philadelphia Phillies and Detroit Tigers, but were still set to send numerous players to the 2024 mid-summer classic in Arlington, Texas.

The stage was set for an exciting week of baseball as the 2024 Major League Baseball all-star game, a highly anticipated event, was about to kick off in Texas. But before that, the T-Mobile Home Run Derby was set to take place, with the Los Angeles Dodgers being represented by National League outfield starter Teoscar Hernández.

The Dodgers have had plenty of players in recent history compete in the derby, such as Mookie Betts, Corey Seager, Cody Bellinger, and Joc Pederson, but in the history of the franchise, not one player has won it, and Teoscar Hernández looked to do just that tonight.

In the new format, Hernández would squeak by the first round, having just enough to move on to the semi-final after hitting nineteen home runs in the first round.

The semi-final match was a showdown between Teoscar Hernández and Phillies all-star third baseman Alec Bohm, who had hit the most home runs in the first round at twenty-one.

Despite a back-and-forth affair that ended in a swing off, Teoscar Hernández ended up victorious, going two-for-three in the swing off, moving on to face young star shortstop Bobby Witt Jr.of the Kansas City Royals and another team that has not had a derby winner.

Teoscar Hernández hit eleven home runs to start the final round and added three more to bring his total to fourteen during the bonus round.

Bobby Witt Jr. would put on a show but would fall just short at first-time derby participant Teoscar Hernández would win the Home Run Derby, the first Dodger player to do so. Get this man a contract extension.
