The Los Angeles Dodgers and right-handed pitcher Tony Gonsolin have reportedly agreed to a one-year $5.4 million contract ahead of today’s non-tender deadline, thus avoiding arbitration.
Gonsolin missed the entire 2024 regular season as the righty rehabbed from Tommy John Surgery he had last season. Despite the Cat Man attempting a comeback late in the season, including traveling with the team throughout their deep October run, he would not appear.
Gonsolin had a career year during the 2022 season, winning sixteen games while only losing one, posting a 2.14 ERA in a career-high 130.0 innings pitched.
At the tail end of the season, Gonsolin was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a right forearm strain, which would linger into the 2023 season and saw Gonsolin’s ERA jump to 4.98 in 103.0 innings.
After the all-star break, Gonsolin and the Dodgers announced that the righty had been pitching with a torn UCL and would finally undergo season-ending surgery.
Gonsolin made a few rehab appearances this season, posting a 2.35 ERA in 7.2 innings while collecting twelve strikeouts in the process.
With the Los Angeles Dodgers likely to deploy a six-man rotation for the 2025 season, it makes sense why they wanted to get Gonsolin and righty Dustin May signed, avoiding the arbitration process altogether.
Gonsolin’s 2025 salary matches what he earned this year, which was part of a two-year contract extension he signed in February 2023. It’s also equal to the amount MLB Trade Rumors projected Gonsolin’s 2025 salary would be.
Gonsolin recently met with some of the media during the offseason at the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation Turkey Drive and stated that there are no restrictions for this upcoming season, and he’s good to go.
