LOS ANGELES — After nearly 20 months away from major league action, Tony Gonsolin is ready to rejoin the Los Angeles Dodgers’ starting rotation. The right-hander will be activated from the injured list and is scheduled to make his first start since August 2023 when he takes the mound against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday at Dodger Stadium.
Gonsolin, 30, has been working his way back from Tommy John surgery, a procedure that sidelined him for the entire 2024 season and much of the early part of 2025. His return marks a significant boost for a Dodgers pitching staff that has battled injuries and inconsistency throughout the first month of the season.
Before his injury, Gonsolin was a key piece of the Dodgers’ rotation. In 2022, he posted a career-best 16–1 record with a 2.14 ERA, earning his first All-Star selection and helping lead Los Angeles to a franchise-record 111 wins. Even while pitching through discomfort in 2023, Gonsolin remained a dependable arm, though his performance dipped slightly before undergoing surgery.
Over the past few weeks, Gonsolin ramped up his rehab assignment with multiple starts for Triple-A Oklahoma City. In his latest outing, he pitched five innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out three and walking two, an encouraging sign that he is ready to compete at the major league level once again.
Gonsolin’s return comes at a critical time for the Dodgers, who are looking to solidify their rotation behind Tyler Glasnow, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Roki Sasaki. Glasnow has dealt with minor setbacks early in the season, while Yamamoto has looked phenomenal in his sophomore season, and Sasaki continues to find his stride with each start. With the rotation being tested early, such as the recent injury of Blake Snell, the addition of a proven veteran like Gonsolin could provide much-needed stability.
First pitch for Wednesday’s game against the Marlins is scheduled for 12:10 p.m. PDT.
