LOS ANGELES, CA — Blake Treinen will spend a bit more time on the Chavez Ravine mound driving opposing hitters crazy with his filthy breaking stuff, it seems. According to media reports on Sunday evening, Treinen and the Dodgers have come to an agreement that will make him a Dodger for the next two seasons.
Further reporting by Ken Rosenthal revealed that the contract is a two-year deal, for somewhere in the neighborhood of 22 million dollars. This will no doubt come as good news to Dodger fans who just missed out on the Juan Soto sweepstakes, with the superstar opting to spend the next fifteen years with the Mets. Good luck with that.
Treinen was absolutely critical to the Dodgers’ World Series run in 2024, and his return shores up a bullpen of “dawgs” that was already among the best in the big leagues in the postseason last year.
2025 will mark Treinen’s sixth season in Dodger blue. After signing a one-year deal with the Dodgers in December 2019, Treinen became an integral part of the team. The COVID-19 pandemic delayed the start of the 2020 season, but Treinen quickly proved his value. He pitched in 27 games, notching a 3.86 ERA and appearing frequently as a trusted reliever. His postseason contributions were critical, including a save in Game 5 of the World Series. The Dodgers ultimately captured their first championship since 1988, and Treinen’s reliability under pressure stood out as a highlight of the team’s success.
The Dodgers rewarded Treinen’s efforts with a two-year, $17.5 million contract following the 2020 season, ensuring his continued presence in their bullpen. In 2021, he delivered one of the best seasons of his career, appearing in 72 games with a 1.99 ERA, seven saves, and an MLB-leading 32 holds. His ability to induce ground balls and manage high-leverage situations made him a cornerstone of the bullpen. Treinen also contributed in the postseason, consistently providing stability in crucial moments.
However, injuries became a recurring obstacle for Treinen. In 2022, he dealt with shoulder soreness that sidelined him for most of the season. Despite his limited availability, the Dodgers extended his contract for the 2023 season, showing faith in his ability to recover and contribute. Unfortunately, Treinen underwent shoulder surgery in November 2022, requiring a lengthy recovery period.
Treinen made a comeback in 2024, demonstrating resilience and skill. He pitched in 50 games during the regular season, recording a stellar 1.93 ERA and a 7–3 record. His postseason performance was equally impressive, with clutch appearances in the NLDS, NLCS, and World Series. Treinen’s consistency helped the Dodgers secure their second championship in five seasons, cementing his legacy as a key player during the team’s recent golden era.
Beyond his on-field contributions, Treinen’s work ethic and veteran presence earned him respect in the clubhouse. His career with the Dodgers showcased not only his pitching talent but also his ability to overcome adversity and deliver in the moments that mattered most.
