Dodgers News: Tyler Glasnow Dealing With “Back Tightness” as Start is Pushed Back

Baltimore, MD — Although their bullpen and position player group has been dealing with injuries left and right since the All-Star break, the Dodgers’ starting rotation had remained essentially healthy, with only Rokí Sasaki missing from the original Opening Day roster. But after Shohei Ohtani‘s start was pushed back a couple of days ago due to sickness, the Dodgers got dealt another bit of bad news today.

Tyler Glasnow, who was scheduled to start today against the Orioles in Baltimore, came in today reporting back tightness, according to Dave Roberts. The Dodgers manager believes that the team got ahead of the injury early, and that the ideal scenario is that Glasnow is able to make a start next week against the Colorado Rockies back in Los Angeles – but that the team wanted to play it safe.

In his place, it’ll be Shohei Ohtani starting tonight for the Dodgers. Ohtani reportedly talked to pitching coach Mark Prior when he arrived at the ballpark today and said he’d be able to start, though his outing may be shorter due to the circumstances.

All things considered, it’s not the worst case scenario for Los Angeles assuming Glasnow is fine and can pitch in a few days. But there’s no assurances it’ll happen, and regardless, a tight back for one of their better starting pitchers as the Dodgers are trying to make a playoff push is less than promising.
