LOS ANGELES— The Los Angeles Dodgers are set to finish up their six-game homestand before traveling out East to take on the Philadelphia Phillies and the Washington Nationals. However, while the team is in our nation’s capital, the Dodgers are also expected to attend the White House after accepting President Trump’s invitation.
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ acceptance has drawn quite a divide on social media between their fans and the media, but despite the current views of the administration, Dave Roberts does not want to make the team’s visit a political issue.
When asked about the upcoming visit to the White House, which is expected to take place on Monday, April 7th, before the start of their three-game series against the Nationals, Roberts was open in his response.
“We all as an organization all decided that we were going to go, and so I’m in support of that, and it’s more on the heels of acknowledging our 2024 championship.”
Roberts continued, ” This is not a political thing. I’m not going to sit up here and make it political; we’re looking forward to celebrating our championship team.”
When Roberts was asked about people who opposed the Dodgers’ visit to the White House, he respected their opinion but shared about the diversity of people within the organization that had agreed to the trip.
“We have a lot of different people that are a part of this organization, different backgrounds, different cultures, races, gender, and so everyone has a different story, economic situations, and so we are all going as an organization so that I do know that we’re all aligned.”
Regardless of Roberts’s comments, the upcoming visit is sure to make the headlines, especially in the Los Angeles-based media. However, don’t expect it to affect the Dodgers day-to-day while they begin their first road trip of the young season
