With the Rule of 5 draft completed. The Dodgers farm system lose four pitchers, one catcher and pick up one player. Listed below are the players who were drafted and what teams they went to.
The Marlins selected RHP Orlando Ortiz-Mayr. Stats: 135IP / 25GS / 108SO / 4.71ERA / .253AVG / 1.42WHIP. He recorded seven strikeouts in seven scoreless innings with the Tulsa Drillers last year. Orlando has good velocity, good ball location, and great ball movement that misses barrels. Orlando will take his talents to the Marlins Triple-A Jumbo Shrimps in Jacksonville.
The Nationals selected RHP Hyun-il Choi. Choi spent last year moving back and forth from OKC and Tulsa. Tulsa Stats: 41IP / 7GS / 46SO / 6.05ERA / .284AVG / 1.34WHIP. OKC Stats: 73IP / 14GS / 56SO / 4.28ERA / .240AVG / 1.33WHIP. In 2021, Choi was selected as MILB pitcher of the year when he was with Great Lakes. He has good ball location, movement, change speeds, and arm slot helps him manipulate the ball. Choi will report to the Nationals Triple-A Red Wings in Rochester.
The Mets selected RHP Michael Hobbs. Hobbs was the all-time saves leader at Saint Mary’s College before signing with the Dodgers. Stats: 57IP / 42G / 52SO / 2.97ERA / .216AVG / 1.28WHIP. Known for his stylish mustache. Hobbs has a good fastball, an incredible breaking ball, and is a vicious competitor while at Tulsa. Hobbs will sport that mustache with Mets Triple-A team in Syracuse.
The Angels selected LHRP Garret McDaniels. McDaniels didn’t allow a single run in his last eight outings with the Great Lake Loons. In 2024 he was on the move most of the year going from Rancho, Great Lakes, and Tulsa. Stats: 73IP / 32G / 84SO / 3.22ERA / .232AVG / 1.31WHIP. McDaniels has good velocity, decent location, good command, and has a high leg kick that hides the ball well. No word on were McDaniels will end up in the Angels farm system.
The Twins selected C Jefferson Valladares. After being brought from the ACL. Valladares was assigned to the Quakes where he spent most of his time on the IL. Stats: 22G / 64AB / 17H / 0HR / 7RBI / 15SO / .271AVG / .357OBP / .396SLG / .753OPS. Valladares will report to the Twins Triple-A Saints in St. Paul.
The Dodgers selected OF John Rhodes. A former third round pick in the 2021 draft, he spent the last three seasons in Double-A with the Orioles. Stats: 104G / 376AB / 76H / 8HR / 47RBI / 98SO / .202AVG / .271OBP / .309SLG / .580OPS. No word on where Rhodes will be playing in 2025 for the Dodgers organization.
