Dodgers News: With Edman Back, What’s the Plan in the OF?

Now that Tommy Edman has returned, what changes to the Dodgers' outfield can we expect?

Leading up to the activation of Tommy Edman, many hypothesized about what the Dodgers’ outfield alignment would look like.

Before the start of Edman’s rehab assignment, Dave Roberts stated that Edman would primarily play center field when he returns, reiterating that it would be the exclusive position he’d play in Triple-A for the Comets.

Well, yesterday, during Edman’s first game back there, he was in center field, but the real storyline was who was playing the corners.

Most insiders assumed that the Dodgers would shift Teoscar Hernández to left field, after struggling defensively this season, and move young outfielder Andy Pages to right.

However, that was not the case.

Hernández remained in right field, and it was Pages who was placed in left.

This was the setup versus left-handed pitcher Kyler Freeland. While Roberts stopped short of saying this would be the go-to lineup versus lefties for the remainder of the season, he also wants to give Alex Call his fair share of opportunities.

As for “fan-favorite” Michael Conforto, Roberts confirmed that he’d be the starting left fielder versus right-handed pitching, which is surprising due to Conforto’s reverse splits.

As of now, it’s fair to assume Edman will remain in center, Hernández will remain in right, and left field will be a platoon of Conforto, Pages, and Call.
