Dodgers Notes: Kershaw Rehab Start, Matt Sauer in Miami, Teoscar Hernández Update, Glasnow & Snell to Throw on Friday

MIAMI— Prior to today’s final game against the Miami Marlins, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided the media with multiple key updates on the roster, injuries, and more.

First, veteran left-handed starter Clayton Kershaw is expected to pitch his fifth and possibly final minor league rehab game on Sunday with the Triple-A OKC Comets.

Kershaw, 37, has been on the 60-day injured list since the start of the 2025 season due to rehabbing from offseason toe and knee surgery and is not eligible to be activated until May 18th, exactly one week after Sunday’s start.

Overall, in Kershaw’s first four rehab appearances, the southpaw has a 2.12 ERA across seventeen innings, collecting fourteen strikeouts.

Kershaw’s most recent outing with the Dodgers was at Ariozna’s low-A affiliate. In that game, he tossed six no-hit innings and struck out four batters, the longest he has pitched so far.

If all goes well, the Dodgers are expected to activate Kershaw the following week. He’ll rejoin a starting rotation desperate for arms after the injuries to Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell.

Dodgers right-handed pitcher Matt Sauer is also with the team in Miami during today’s game as a taxi squad member. The righty is ineligible for activation as he has not met the minimum fifteen days after being optioned.

If Sauer is recalled and placed on the Dodgers’ 26-man active roster, it would have to be because another pitcher was placed on the injured list.

With the Dodgers leading the league in innings pitched from their bullpen, Dave Roberts stated the team is monitoring the health of a few members in the team’s bullpen, so Sauer is here as insurance.

Robert was also much more optimistic today about the groin injury to Teoscar Hernández, which placed the 2024 National League All-Star on the 10-day injured list this series.

Initially, Roberts stated that it would be weeks until the Dodgers saw the return of Teoscar Hernández, but today, the Dodgers’ skipper is hopeful that it’ll be a two-week hiatus for the right fielder.

The team will know more about how Teoscar Hernández’s body feels as he continues to ramp up in the coming days, but after their conversation today, both sides feel a lot better about the situation than they did two days ago.

Lastly, Roberts also confirmed that right-handed pitcher Tyler Glasnow and left-handed pitcher Blake Snell will both begin throwing again on Friday.

Both starters were placed on the 15-day injured list with shoulder discomfort and will be sidelined until they are pain-free.

Snell is with the Dodgers on their road trip and will throw while the Dodgers are in Arizona, where the team will begin their four-game series in Phoenix against the Diamondbacks.

Glasnow is not with the team but will likely throw in Los Angeles.

Both starters are still far away from returning, but having them start to throw again is a good sign with their injury.
