LOS ANGELES—Prior to tonight’s Game Two against the Chicago Cubs, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts gave plenty of updates about the team, including their pitching plans for their next series, Ohtani and Kopech’s bullpen, and where Kershaw will begin his rehab assignment.
Yesterday, Roberts confirmed that veteran lefty Clayton Kershaw would begin his rehab assignment on Wednesday but did not announce where it would be.
However, Roberts confirmed today that Kershaw will begin his rehab in Triple-A with the OKC Comets.
Kershaw was placed on the 60-day Injured List prior to the start of the 2025 Major League Baseball regular season in Tokyo, Japan, for the start of the two-game Toyko Series.
That said, Kershaw cannot be activated off the Injured List until May 17th, giving the lefty around a five-week buildup period before any activation.
Coincidentally, that Wednesday start would line up when right-handed pitcher Bobby Miller would start in Triple-A, and with the team needing a spot starter for Wednesday’s game against the Colorado Rockies, it seems like it’ll be Miller Time at Chavez Ravine again.
Roberts already announced that righty Landon Knack would remain in the starting rotation for one more turn despite allowing five runs in 2.1 innings of work last time out in D.C. against the Washington Nationals.
The team would be unable to recall lefty Justin Wrobleski after his option on Wednesday, needing to stay in the minors for fifteen days unless recalled due to an injury-related roster move.
Thus, it seems Miller is the only probable option, and Roberts seemingly hinted at that, stating it was “interesting” that Miller was pulled from his last start at fifty-five pitches.
Miller, 26, has a 2.25 ERA in 12.0 innings pitched this season but has struggled with his command, issuing eleven walks while only striking out eleven hitters.
In Ohtani news, the two-way superstar threw another bullpen this weekend at Dodgers Stadium today, as is the weekly plan.
Overall, Ohtani threw thirty pitches, all fastballs, with a mix of his signature splitter, and will likely throw a lighter session this upcoming Thursday.
As Dave Roberts confirmed last week in D.C., Ohtani is still far away from facing live hitters. He will not face any hitters until he throws all of his pitches in his bullpens.
Speaking of the bullpen, right-handed pitcher Michael Kopech also threw another bullpen this week at Dodger Stadium and will throw another session on Tuesday.
Kopech has missed the entire season until this point after being delayed in spring training with a forearm/shoulder injury. Kopech had a 1.13 ERA in twenty-four appearances with the Dodgers last season.
