LOS ANGELES, CA — Full disclosure. I love everything about Justin Turner. He is my prototype for what a baseball player should be: passionate, professional, fiercely loyal to his teammates. It’s little wonder that Justin Turner became an iconic figure during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers. As he returns to Dodger Stadium for the first time after leaving through free agency two seasons ago, let’s take a look back at what this cornerstone of the franchise did, and why he became such a beloved figure on the team.

Turner’s journey with the Dodgers began in 2014 when he signed a minor league contract with the team after being non-tendered by the New York Mets. What followed was a transformation from a journeyman infielder to one of the most beloved and clutch performers in Dodgers history.Turner’s impact was immediate. In 2014, he hit an impressive .340, showing that he was more than just a utility player. His versatility in the infield, combined with his consistent bat, quickly made him a valuable asset. He was often seen as the heart and soul of the Dodgers, leading by example with his work ethic and dedication. His positive influence extended beyond the game, as he and his wife, Kourtney, established the Justin Turner Foundation, which focuses on helping homeless veterans, children battling life-threatening illnesses, and their families. For this and other good works, Turner was given the Roberto Clemente Award in 2022, capping off a brilliant Dodger career.
