Dodgers Opinion: With the trade deadline approaching, what players would be a good fit for the Dodgers?

via Tampa Bay Times

The Los Angeles Dodgers are ranked number three in team hitting behind the New York Yankees and Baltimore Oriels. Los Angeles has 111 HR / 394RBI / .255AVG / .335OBP / .439SLG / .756OPS. With the inconsistent hitting in the bottom of the lineup and position player movement that has really not worked out very well. Who could the Dodgers get in the trade deadline to seriously make a run at the World Series?

Randy Arozarena

The Dodgers need hitters and help in the outfield that can get it done in the post season, so let’s talk about one hitter that has a proven track record in the playoffs. Tampa Bay’s Randy Arozarena has not had the best start to the 2024 season but is trending in the right direction. His numbers so far before the All-Star break, 10HR / .189AVG / .303OBP / .344SLG / .647OPS. Here is the good news, when looking at the splits his numbers are trending up in the right direction.

In thirty-three games played in the play-offs, Arozarena’s numbers are exactly what the Dodgers are looking for. His post season batting in nine series, 113AB / 38HR / 17RBI / 13BB / 33SO / .336AVG / .414OBP / .690SLG / 1.104OPS. He is not hitting for power, but what the Dodgers need is a proven bat in the playoffs in the bottom of the line-up that can put the ball in play and score runners. Arozarena has proven that. A good trade would be, the Dodgers trade #6 prospect P Jackson Ferris and OF Miguel Vargas to Tampa.

Bo Bichette

With Mookie Betts recovering from his broken hand, the short-stop experiment needs to end. Bo Bichette is an everyday short stop that gives Miguel Rojas the rest he will need to be ready for the post season. In a recent interview, Bichette stated he wouldn’t be surprised if the Blue Jays moved him. The concerning part of a trade with Bichette, his batting numbers are trending in the wrong direction. That could change if traded to the Dodgers, a new team with play-off and World Series possibilities could give Bichette the motivation to start hitting to his capabilities.

Bichette’s current numbers before the trade deadline, 266AB / 132B / 4HR / 28RBI / 4SB / .233AVG / .283OBP / .335SLG / .618OPS. He has the ability to add much need hitting in the bottom of the line-up that can move and/or score runners who are in scoring positions. The Blue Jays could be asking a lot from the Dodgers for this trade, I would give up #6 prospect P Jackson Ferris, #3 P Nick Frasso, and OF Miguel Vargas.

Garrett Crochet

With the uncertainty of Yamamoto’s shoulder injury, Kershaw’s return, and Buehler’s struggles coming back from his second Tommy John surgery. The saying is “you can never have enough pitching” and White Sox’s Garrett Crochet is a much-needed left-handed pitcher who could be a number three starter for the Dodgers.

Crochet is having a stellar season in 2024 and his before the trade line numbers are impressive, 3.8WAR / 94IP / 3.05ERA / 130SO / .943WHIP / .500W-L% / 12.4SO9. Crochet relies on 4 pitches which gave the Dodgers troubles in the recent series against the White Sox’s.

He throws a four-seam fastball 54.9%, cutter 26.4%, slider12.4%, and changeup 6.3%. The question is, can Crochet get it done in the post season? As Dodgers fans, we all know so well pitching has been a struggle in the post season that past few years.

What would the Dodgers have to possibly give up for Crochet? I would be ok giving up #6 LHP Jackson Ferris, #25 INF/OF Austin Gauthier, and CF James Outman.

With these three trades, our top of the line-up hitting, and one of the best bullpens in MLB. The Dodgers will once again be talked about being the favorites to win the 2024 World Series.
