Dodgers Preview: East Coast Road Trip Continues in Miami for Three-Game Set with Marlins

Los Angeles Dodgers (23-10) versus Miami Marlins (13-20)

MIAMI— The Los Angeles Dodgers’ season-long ten-game road trip continues with a three-game set against the Miami Marlins.

The Dodgers have been riding high over the last week, winning seven of their last ten games, including a three-game series sweep of the Miami Marlins at Dodger Stadium and two of three against the red-hot Atlanta Braves.

The Dodgers enter today’s matchup with the best record in Major League Baseball, which is to be expected this year with their payroll and the amount of expectation for the club. However, it has not been without a few blemishes.

Despite the struggles of Michael Conforto, who is in the midst of a 0-for-29 skid, the Dodgers’ offense has been electric, scoring forty-nine runs over their last six games.

For the second time in less than two weeks, the Dodgers will face off against the Miami Marlins. The Marlins have continued to struggle, losing eight of their last ten games. They are in last place in the National League East with a 13-20 record this season.

It’ll be the first game at Marlins Park (Loan Depot Park) since Shohei Ohtani’s historic 6-for-6 day with three home runs and two stolen bases, reaching the 50/50 club (fifty stolen bases, fifty home runs).

Who’s in & who’s out?

Not much has changed for the Dodgers since their last meeting with the Marlins; however, one new name joining the party is Korean utilityman Hyeseong Kim, who was recalled from Triple-A OKC on Saturday.

Kim, 26, hit .252/.328/.470 slash line and a .798 OPS in twenty-eight minor league games this season, and stole two key bases in yesterday’s 4-3 loss.

However, the Dodgers will be without utilityman Tommy Edman, who was placed on the 10-day injured list due to an ankle injury he sustained in Tuesday’s win over the Marlins. Edman missed two straight games, and despite Roberts stating we’d see him in the lineup during the Braves series, he was placed on the injured list instead.

With Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell’s injuries, the Dodgers have a massive hole in their starting rotation. With the team in the thick of playing ten games in ten days, the Dodgers will look to right-handed relief pitcher Ben Casparius to be a bridge to their planned bullpen game on Wednesday.

Despite Michael Kopech being placed on the 60-day injured list, the righty will be eligible to return by May 17th, with the injury placement being backdated to the start of the regular season. Kopech has continued ramping up his throwing program and hopes to face hitters in May.

Last week, the Dodgers also added two relief pitchers to their 40-man roster: J.P. Feyereisen, who was claimed off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks, and Ryan Loutos, who was acquired via trade with the St. Louis Cardinals.

With the Dodgers having Casparius pitching the bulk of innings in Game One, the Dodgers could look for some fresh arms for the Wednesday series finale bullpen game.

Like the Dodgers, the Miami Marlins’ injured list is dominated by pitchers, including young Eury Pérez, who is expected to miss most of the first half of the 2025 season recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Ryan Weather, who was placed on the 15-day injured list in March, threw his first rehab game yesterday, tossing three perfect innings on thirty-five pitches.

The Marlins will also be without outfielder Derek Hill, who sprained his left wrist on a diving catch on April 8th at Citi Field against the New York Mets. Hill initially tried playing through it but was placed on the 10-day injured list on April 18th and was cleared for baseball activities on April 21st.

Newly added to the injured list is Otto Lopez, who suffered a Grade-2 ankle sprain on May 2nd and will be out until late May or mid-June.
