Dodgers Preview: LA Begins Another Critical NL West Series in Three-Game Set with Giants

Los Angeles Dodgers (41-28) versus San Francisco Giants (40-29)

LOS ANGELES, CA — Déjà vu as the Los Angeles Dodgers begin another critical mid-season series against a National League West rival, this time welcoming the second-place San Francisco Giants to Chavez Ravine, their first meeting so far this season.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are riding high, taking two of three in San Diego against the then-second-place Padres; however, after their series loss, the Friars have moved down to third place in the National League West.

Despite the series win, the Dodgers have just five wins over their last ten games played, and after nineteen games into this twenty-nine-game stretch in thirty-one days, the team currently sits just one game over .500 with a record of 10-9.

The San Fransico Giants, despite stumbling to end May, going 7-7 in their final fourteen games that month, they’ve won eight of their last eleven games in June.

The Giants will enter their first meeting with the Dodgers this season just one game back of first place.

Who’s in & who’s out?

Not much has changed on the injury front for the Los Angeles Dodgers following their series in San Diego; however, the team received tremendous updates on the possible mid-season return of multiple key players.

Two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani is set to possibly rejoin the Dodgers starting rotation in July with a “above zero percent chance” before the All-Star break, per Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell each threw their respective bullpen sessions, the second for Glasnow and the first for Snell. Each starter is eying a post-all-star break return.

15-day Injured List (4): Tyler Glasnow, Roki Sasaki, Luis García, Tony Gonsolin

60-day Injured List (10): Blake Snell, Brusdar Graterol, Michael Grove, Gavin Stone, River Ryan, Kyle Hurt, Emmet Sheehan, Edgardo Henriquez, Blake Treinen, Evan Phillips

The San Francisco Giants are coming into this critical series missing multiple key players in their starting rotation and lineup.

Perhaps the most significant loss for the Giants is the injury to all-star third baseman Matt Champson, who is expected to miss possibly the rest of June due to right-hand inflammation.

Chapman jammed his hand on a dive back to first base, trying to avoid a pickoff, and an MRI done on June 8th showed sprained finger ligaments and a bone bruise.

On the pitching side, the Giants will also be without two members of their starting rotation: veteran right-hander Justin Verlander (pectoral strain) and Jordan Hicks (toe inflammation, likely sidelined until mid-June).

10-day Injured List (2): Patrick Bailey, Matt Chapman

15-day Injured List (2): Justin Verlander, Jordan Hicks

60-day Injured List (1): Tom Murphy
