Dodgers Preview: LA visits the South Side in a matchup with the White Sox & two potential deadline arms

The Los Angeles Dodgers kick off a six-game road trip, starting in South Side Chicago. They will face the struggling Chicago White Sox for a three-game series.

The Dodgers, fresh off winning three of four in Colorado and splitting the Freeway series with the Angels, hope to take advantage of a weak schedule in the coming days. They will face a White Sox team that is a major league-worst 21-58, which equates to a .266 winning percentage.

The Dodgers enter today’s game, having won six of their last ten games. The offense, with Shohei Ohtani in the leadoff role, has erupted with contributions from all the hitters since the loss of Mookie Betts two Sundays ago.

On the other hand, the White Sox are facing a different reality. With a 4-6 record in their last ten games and a 21.5 game gap from the final American League Wild Card, they are in a challenging position. President of Baseball Operations Chris Getz is eagerly awaiting the July 30th MLB Trade Deadline, hoping to fast forward the White Sox rebuild with potential trades.

The Dodgers, who will be active in the trade market to add the finishing touches on what they hope is a championship-caliber team, will get to see multiple players, such as Luis Robert Jr., Garrett Crochet, and Erick Fedde.

Who’s in & who’s out?

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ injury situation is the same as it was in the last series against the Angels.

However, Kyle Hurt, who was on a rehab assignment in the minors, was activated and placed back on the 40-man roster. To make room on the roster, the Dodgers transferred third baseman Max Muncy to the 60-day IL, all but confirming that the left-handed slugger will be out past the 2024 All-Star break. Hurt was activated and placed in Triple-A OKC on their active roster.

The Dodgers also got updates on Dustin May, Joe Kelly, and Brusdar Graterol. Each pitcher has begun throwing, and hopefully, they will all return at some point this season.

There have been no updates regarding right-handed pitcher Ryan Braiser, and many around the Dodgers clubhouse believe that the righty will not return this season.

Exciting news for the White Sox as they welcome an offensive boost to their lineup. Eloy Jiménez was activated off the injured list this past weekend, marking his return after missing the last several weeks with a left hamstring strain.

However, with the activation, the White Sox would send down Oscar Colás, who was hitting .273 (9-for-33) in 13 games with Chicago this season and 6-for-20 (.300) over the past week.
