The Los Angeles Dodgers are playing their best baseball so far this season, securing back-to-back series sweeps of the Atlanta Braves and the Miami Marlins. However, they are set to take on the San Diego Padres for the third time this season, kicking off their six-game road trip.

So far, in 2024, the Dodgers are 2-3 against the Padres, splitting the Seoul, Korea series 1-1 and losing their previous series at home, where they went 3-6 on that homestand.

Who’s in & who’s out?

The Dodgers’ injury situation has remained largely unchanged. They are still without Jason HeywardBobby MillerBrusdar GraterolKyle HurtRyan Brasier, and Evan Phillips.

However, the Dodgers also placed right-handed reliever Joe Kelly on the 15-day IL due to a right posterior shoulder injury. The team is unsure how long he will be out.

While Joe Kelly was placed on the IL, the Dodgers welcomed back another valuable arm for the bullpen in Blake Treinen. Making his debut against the Braves on Sunday, Treinen showcased his prowess by pitching back-to-back days and throwing two scoreless innings.

The Dodgers’ starting rotation received a boost with the activation of right-handed pitcher Walker Buehler. Making his first appearance since June of 2022, Buehler showed resilience after his second career Tommy John Surgery. In his debut, he pitched four innings, allowing three earned runs and averaging 97 mph.

The Padres recently promoted 36-year-old veteran Donovan Solano, who signed a Minor League deal on April 17 and spent the past couple of weeks with the Chihuahuas as sort of a pseudo-spring training.

The Padres also placed right-handed starter Joe Musgrove on the 15-day IL with right elbow inflammation and called up Randy Vásquez, who was a part of the Juan Soto trade this past offseason.

Joining the Padres this time is newly acquired bat Luis Arraez, who was traded by the struggling Marlins, who are seemingly out of postseason contention in May.
