Dodgers Preview: Second Half Kicks Off with Three-Game Set vs Milwaukee

Los Angeles Dodgers (58-39) versus Milwaukee Brewers (56-40)

LOS ANGELES, CA— The second half of the 2025 Major League Baseball regular season is here, and the Los Angeles Dodgers will kick it off at Dodger Stadium for a three-game weekend series against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Despite a week off due to the All-Star break, this is the second meeting over the last three series in which these two National League clubs will meet.

Their first meeting in Milwaukee did not go the Dodgers’ way, as it was the first time in franchise history that the Brewers swept the Dodgers at American Family Field.

The Dodgers during that series were outmatched in almost all facets of the game, getting outscored by fifteen runs to four, pushing their losing streak to a season-high six games.

The Dodgers would rebound, taking two of three against their National League West rival, the San Francisco Giants, to close out the first half, but one thing was clear: the team desperately needed a break.

With the week off, the team gets to reset their starting rotation with Tyler Glasnow getting his second crack at the Brewers for his second start since being activated off the injured list.

The Dodgers enter the series and the second half with a decent 5.5 game lead over the Giants and look to get back on track after dropping seven of their last ten games before the break.

As for the Brew Crew, they are keeping pace in the competitive National League Central, just one game back of the leading Chicago Cubs.

Prior to the break, the Brewers were on a hot streak, winning eight of their last ten games, including three against these Dodgers.

Who’s in & who’s out?

The second half of the regular season is one filled with hope for the Dodgers as they’re expected to activate several names off their expansive injured list.

Lefty Blake Snell continued his rehab assignment during the break, tossing three innings of one-run ball and collecting seven punchouts in the Arizona League. Snell will rejoin the OKC Comets during the Dodgers’ homestand and could be activated before the end of July.

Joining Snell in Arizona was veteran right-handed relief pitcher Blake Treinen, who also tossed a one-run frame in his second rehab appearance.

23-year-old Japanese right-hander Roki Sasaki also threw a bullpen session before the break, and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated that he’s pain-free and is eying an August return.

Kiké Hernández is also set to return from the 10-day injured list shortly after the All-Star break after dealing with left elbow inflammation.

Max Muncy, who suffered a significant knee injury on the Dodgers’ final homestand before the break, has progressed well in his rehab, including training on a bike. The Dodgers are still hopeful he’ll return in September.

Two players who needed the break, Teoscar Hernández and Tommy Edman, should also be close to pain-free. Teo was dealing with a groin and foot injury in the first half and saw his numbers dip across the board after his initial activation off the 10-day injured list in May.

Edman has a fractured pinkie toe but returned to the Dodgers lineup during the final game in Milwaukee and played third base during the series in San Francisco.

60-day Injured List (11): Roki Sasaki, Tony Gonsolin, Michael Kopech, Blake Snell, Brusdar Graterol, Michael Grove, Gavin Stone, River Ryan, Kyle Hurt, Blake Treinen, Evan Phillips

Prior to the break, Brewers outfielder Sal Frelick exited in the finale games vs the Washington Nationals after making a slick catch in foul territory.

Frelick had an MRI done after the game, which showed a Grade One hamstring strain, and he could be placed on the 10-day injured list today.

First baseman Rhys Hoskins was placed on the 10-day injured list after experiencing left thumb discomfort while trying to swipe a tag at first base on July 05th.

The former Phillies first baseman underwent X-rays, which came back negative, but Hoskins was still in significant pain and missed the final game of their series in Miami.

Left-handed pitcher and former New York Yankee Nestor Cortes is expected to return to the Brewers rotation after the All-Star break after dealing with a left elbow flexor strain.

The lefty has been out since early April and started a minor league rehab assignment last week.

Left-handed pitcher Rob Zastryzny’s return is also to be determined after having a rib stress reaction at the end of June. Rob is expected to begin a throwing program this past Monday.
