Cactus League Game 6, 2/25/2025: Mariners 11, Dodgers 5

GLENDALE, ARIZ. – The Dodgers struggled in their sixth Cactus League game, falling 11-5 to the Seattle Mariners this afternoon at Camelback Ranch.

Blake Snell, the Dodgers’ marquee offseason acquisition, made his much-anticipated Spring Training debut. The left-hander, who signed a five-year, $139 million deal, looked sharp in his lone inning, allowing no hits and striking out one. A two-time Cy Young Award winner, Snell is expected to be a key piece of the Dodgers’ rotation as he chases a third Cy Young this season.

Miguel Rojas, typically known for his work at shortstop, got the start at first base and contributed offensively, driving in two runs—one on a fielder’s choice in the first inning and another on an RBI double to center in the third.

Dodgers backup catcher Austin Barnes added an RBI double to the right-field corner in the third, bringing home Griffin Lockwood-Powell. Barnes, known more for his defense and handling of the pitching staff, showcased his ability to contribute offensively with a well-placed hit. The veteran catcher is expected to continue serving as Will Smith’s primary backup this season.

In the ninth, third baseman Kody Hoese delivered a two-run single, accounting for the Dodgers’ final runs of the game. Hoese, a former first-round pick looking to make an impression this spring, has struggled to live up to expectations in the minors but is hoping to turn heads with strong at-bats. His late-game hit was a bright spot in an otherwise tough afternoon for the Dodgers’ offense.

Despite a solid start, the Dodgers’ pitching struggled in the later innings, allowing Seattle to pile on runs and put the game out of reach. The Dodgers also struggled offensively, failing to create consistent scoring opportunities.

The Dodgers will look to bounce back tomorrow when they travel to American Family Fields of Phoenix to face the Milwaukee Brewers. First pitch is set for 12:10 p.m. PST.
