SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA — Well, the Dodgers juggernaut seems to be in full operational mode. At least against a Korean team. Playing in the first of a couple exhibition games, the globetrotting Dodgers absolutely demolished the Kiwoom Heroes (perhaps Korea’s version of the Washington Generals) in convincing fashion, posting a 13-4 win over their overmatched opponents.
Freddie Freeman started off the scoring with a mamoth solo home run in the first inning to put the Dodgers on the board, and they never looked back. Freeman continued to punish Hero pitchers all game, collecting three hits on the game, including one of his trademark doubles to go along with the dinger. But the party didn’t stop three. Freeman’s best bud Jason Heyward was awesome, also collecting three hits and driving in four runs. But many Dodgers were in the multi-hit club on Saturday night (Sunday afternoon in Korea to be very accurate). Hunter Feduccia, Chris Taylor, and Gavin Lux all got a couple of knocks on the day. In all it was a 17-hit attack that resulted in runs in six of the nine innings of the game. The big innings were the fifth, where they put up five runs to pull away, and the seventh, where the Dodgers buried the Heroes with a five spot. How do you say “Throw in the towel” in Korean?
In all it was nine innings of awesomeness. The only guys who didn’t get in on the fun were Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani, both of whom went 0-for-2 before leaving the game in favor of a substitute. Nobody got hurt, Dodger fans, don’t worry. It was always planned that way. This was after all an exhibition. Things get real later this week. The Dodgers have another game against these same Heroes on Sunday evening, Los Angeles time.
