CHAVEZ RAVINE, CA — After more than a month of contests in Arizona and a brief four-game trip to Japan (with two of them counting in the books), your Dodgers are back in Los Angeles. They restarted their 2025 campaign commandingly Sunday night against their cross-town rivals, besting the Angels by a score of 7-1.

It appeared that both Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman were returning as well, until Betts was scratched from the lineup a couple of hours before Jackson Ferris‘ first pitch at Dodger Stadium. Betts is still recovering from an illness that ruled him out in both games in Tokyo against the Cubs, and his status for Thursday’s opening day is very much up in the air.

Ferris went 3.2 innings, only allowing one earned run, a solo blast to Angels outfielder Taylor Ward in the top of the third inning. He was otherwise efficient, and struck out four batters before handing the ball off to Ben Casparius with two runners on in the fourth inning.

Max Muncy homered on the first pitch of the bottom of the fifth to tie the score at one, before the Dodgers went on to blow the game open in the later innings. The team scored two more in the seventh, and four in the eighth. Chris Taylor and Chris Okey each knocked in two runs for the hometown Dodgers. Old friend Kenley Jansen got saddled with the loss out of the pen, giving up the tie-breaking runs in the seventh on Chris Okey’s two-run double. On the mound, Kirby Yates had his best outing in Dodger blue, striking out the side before handing the ball off to Alex Vesia, who closed the game out with a scoreless ninth inning.

The Dodgers have two more tune-ups Monday and Tuesday against the Angels, with first pitch Monday scheduled to be thrown at 6:07 PM EST, in Anaheim. Tyler Glasnow will get his final start of the spring, while the Angels have yet to announce a starter for tomorrow’s game.
